If you’ve ever been browsing on a Mac and clicked a mailto: link, you may have discovered that it often tends to default to the Mail app. If you want to use Gmail (or another email service) you need to make a few changes. To be clear, the problem isn’t with opening links in.
I've been trying to change the default email application on my Macbook Pro unsucessfully. Ixpand flash drive.
Jun 02, 2019 Here are the ways you can customize the email app on Mac. Check for new messages frequency. You can adjust the Mail app to check for new emails automatically, according to a schedule, or manually. With a schedule, you can decide how much time should pass before the system looks for new mail again. In the app, click on Mail in the macOS menu bar. First, open the default Mail app (sorry for that) and click on Mail Preferences in the upper menu. You’ll only need to do this once, to set default email mac. Once there, switch to the ‘General’ tab and click on ‘Default Email Reader’. Now you can choose the app you would like to be the default. While the likes of Mail, iTunes and Safari are set as the default applications on your Mac - meaning they launch automatically when you open an email, audio file or web link - it's easy to give.
Mac Os Change Default Mail App
I'm using Outlook 2016 on my Mac and would like to use it for all my email as I use Safari to login to my personal web mail. On Yosemite I would open Mail, go to Preferences and change the Default Email Application in the menu to Outlook. I can do that on El Capitan but as soon as I close preferences and open it again the setting is back to Mail.
On older versions of Outlook you could open the app and go to preferences and check a box there to set it as the default mail app but that setting seems to have been removed.
