A cool trick in Spotify to display the cover art for all songs in a playlist or folder — which was a hidden shortcut for ages and not officially supported until recently — is to choose View→View as Album List. Alternatively, Ctrl+G (Command+G on the Mac) works, too. In the desktop player, on the left side of the control bar at the bottom of the app you should see a tiny album cover picture on the left of the current song. Move your cursor to that little picture. Although it's not natively supported in the official client, spotispy is an app that connects to your client and displays the album art from your playing track. Just type in the top left search bar spotify:app:visualizer and a Spotify visualizer app should appear for you. Then for some unexplainable reason, it got removed. Since Spotify is one of the best music streaming softwares, the one thing Spotify lacks is a live Spotify visualizer that either allows full screen album artwork or abstract visuals.

Spotify is planning to take a page out of YouTube Music’s playbook to add support for videos and make them accessible right from the ‘Now Playing’ tab. With this addition, you may be able to seamlessly switch between audio and video versions of a track.

App reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong managed to successfully enable the feature. According to Wong, video integration will exist as a separate tab, presumably one left swipe away from the Album Art. That is, there will be a total of three sections – Canvas (short looping videos), Album Art, and Video in Spotify’s Now Playing tab.

The placeholder text reads “Thanks for your interest in video. We’re still exploring what could happen here”. It is evident that Spotify is in the process of figuring out agreements to source videos for its platform. We will, however, have to wait until the streaming giant officially announces the feature to learn more in terms of availability.

Although not as cohesive as YouTube Music and Spotify’s upcoming integration, it is also worth mentioning that popular Spotify alternativeApple Music has also had support for videos since 2018 through a dedicated section.

Spotify’s focus on integrating music videos doesn’t really come as a surprise, especially since the company is currently open to experimentations with video podcasts. All these changes are signs that Spotify is willing to strategically position itself as a full-fledged media streaming platform, rather than just fish in the ocean of music streaming apps.

There were leaks last month showing what might have been our first look at the Spotify iPad app, but today the company officially launched its long-awaited app with a blog post and the video above. The free app has already landed in the App Store as a universal download (an update for users of the iPhone app), and the service offers a 48-hour free trial for non-Premium subscribers with the ability to increase it to 30 days.

Our iPad app looks great. We’ve included Retina graphics and high-definition album art to make browsing a pleasure. Enjoying all the world’s music instantly on your iPad has never been easier. And with the brand new full-screen view and AirPlay integration, Spotify and your iPad are perfect for each other, both as your pumped-up living room stereo and your lean, green music machine when you’re on the move.

Compared to Spotify’s iPhone experience, the iPad app has been completely redesigned with a layered UI more familiar to Facebook iPad app users and packs most of the service’s features apart from the recently launched Web apps. It also includes a new full-screen mode with Retina graphics to take advantage of the device’s display and AirPlay support. Missing is “Collection” view and few other features only accessible through the online service.
